Think you’re not in good enough shape? Too old, injured, or overweight?  So did Don Harris a MovNat Workshop alumni, read about his experience in his own words:

“My name is Don Harris. I am a photographer in Tulsa Oklahoma. I have never liked to exercise… I could rarely motivate myself to go to a gym to “work out”.  I am 38 and for the past 23 years have lived with chronic, sometimes excruciating back pain for which no cause or cure had been found for me after many trips to “specialists”… the pain would be so severe in my legs and back that I would be non-functioning the following day.

I was intrigued with Erwan’s philosophy and the obvious results he had achieved in his own life. When Erwan announced his first seminars I realized I could go to another back specialist and possibly have to have surgery, or at least get another round of pain pills.  Or… I could… live in the woods for a week and see if there was anything to the MovNat thing.  I was not encouraged by anyone to go.  Friends, family, doctor friends, all expressed high levels of doubt to me. Yet I went anyway.

The first two days were the most difficult days I had ever experienced.  Yet Erwan was so encouraging, so gracious, and so real.  He did not make any claims or give me pie in the sky stories. Erwan scaled the class to each of our abilities.  He gently pushed us, but did not force us. There was no sense that this was another fitness fad…Yet after day two, I did not see how I could go on…I am used to dealing with intense pain and I am not sure of the exact moment I realized it, but that evening I became aware that I had NO pain in my body.  I thought it must have been a fluke or that it would return. But it did not.  The next day, I experienced a huge energy burst.  I had not realized that the pain I was in was robbing me of tremendous amounts of energy.  I was able to do things I would not have attempted…  for the first time in years, able to be myself.  The transformation that started there for me continues to this day.  I am still pain free.

I continue MovNat as my only “work out”.  The experience I had at that seminar was one of those life changing moments you look back on as one of the best times of your life.  If you are looking for a NO BS approach to LIFE, not just exercise, please do not hesitate to come to a seminar.  Everyone in my group left excited and feeling like our money, time, and energy was well spent.  Erwan is for real.  MovNat is for real.  And the results you will see and feel in your own body are real too.”

You should come to New Zealand! (Greetings from a 14yr old kiwi ^^)
Just a question: Do you do train MovNat in more extreme enviroments such as a desert or a mountain of sorts? Or do you stick with a more forest-beach-island scenario?

  • Hi Darcy, I hope we can announce events sooner in the future indeed.
Thanks for the positive feedback too!

Ben, MovNat can be trained anytime anywhere making the best of where you find yourself, adapting to conditions. However extreme weather/terrain areas like deserts (hot or cold ones) are not ideal and then it is rather survival techniques you want to learn and use rather than thinking of training natural movement there.
Last, again, MovNat can be trained indoors, in a city or using man-made structures. Contrary to what many people believe, training is often most efficient and highly optimized using man-made structures/facility.
Nature often does not provide much scalability and safety is a constant issue. The ultimate goal is to be able to train or move efficiently in nature (but not only), but unless you’ve been living in nature all your life, it is not at all the best strategy to exclusively train in the wild.

Erwan, I respect and like your work and I am also looking forward to participate in one of your workshops when I have the money. I enjoy reading articles on your page and always laved your posts on the parkour.net forum.

But “Don’s Story” with the the fotos “before” and “after” looks extremly untrustworthy and dubious, like some crapy diet ad, so why do you put it on the welcome page?

When someone is doing good work (like you do) it shouldn’t be necessary to promote it like this.

  • Arno, first off thanks for the positive feedback.
If you had known Don before he started training and now, you would maybe not believe it is the same guy. But that internal transformation, how he feels about himself and life and also how he feels physically, is not something he can show, only describe. Photos offer something a bit more tangible to see, it is only the physical side of things, but it is certainly not the most important aspect of that change.

You see nowhere that MovNat is about loosing weight and this kind of thing. However it is truth that looking better and most importantly FEELING better is an important and legitimate concern to many.
So I believe that publishing Don’s story and showing him, how he feels and looks so much better now, would inspire others that are in a similar condition to attend a MovNat event.
It was actually Don himself that suggested to show that change and send photos, as he is very proud of this accomplishment, and also wants to become a MovNat coach himself and help others to achieve what he is still in the process of achieving now! So expect more news about Don in the future as we will follow him.
Listen MovNat is not about creating some kind of “elite” of natural movement. It is designed to rehabilitate the “zoo human”. Many people need this, fit or not fit, but especially the unfit, because they are the one that suffer most of the zoo human syndrome.

Hi again, Erwan: I agree with Ben: consider seriously about having a seminar here in New Zealand. :)

On another note, I’m very happy that MovNat is _still_ getting more momentum without compromising; I really believe you deserve this ongoing achievement.

Regarding Arno’s comment on the pictures: I’d like to add that it’s the perception; it is reminiscent a kind of testimonial that is often regarded as dishonest. I don’t doubt you mean it for good, but a ‘before/after’ photo pair will rub some people the wrong way, and it will only be because of stigma. Perhaps a different visual style, instead?

hey erwan a friend showed me this http://www.untamedlife.com/

    looks like your kinda thing:)

Too bad so many “before-and-after” advertisement photos are contrived, and have conditioned so many to be negative towards them. Otherwise, what better way to share with others in the media visible results than with honest photos? If one is not there to see for one’s self, what other way is there? Inspiring photos inspire; I can utilize discrimination to distinguish between the two types(honest and contrived).
