The 12 MovNat Physical Competence Prerequisite Tests
The detailed technique of each of these drills will be made available upon registration so that the candidate can practice before the certification workshop.
Tests 1 & 2
BALANCING – Walking, deep squat & tripod transition on a 2″ x 3″ x 8ft stable surface.
Starting from one end of the beam in a standing position, the candidate must walk forward, fully squat down upon reaching the other end, pivot 90 degrees, perform a tripod transition and extending the leg once forward and backward, pivot another 90 degrees, stand up and return to the other end and do the same, and end in a standing position. The candidate will have 2 chances to complete this without stepping off the beam, or moving with excessive tension or flailing, or marking more than 1 pause longer than 3 seconds.
Test 3
JUMPING – a timed test where a certain number of 2 techniques of jumps must be completed.
The candidate will have 3 minutes to successfully complete 6 reps each of two types of jumps (total 12 jumps): a broad jump, and a split jump from an 1 step approach. Both jumps are to a specific target at a distance of 4ft (1,2m) for women and 6ft (1,8m) for men (scalable if needed). The candidate receives credit for a successful jump when they land on target and can stand up and stay in place for 3 seconds. Failing means the number of successful jumps was not reached.
Test 4
CRAWLING – hand-foot crawl (bear crawl) on a beam
The candidate must move on all fours for 20ft (6m) on a beam with good form and without falling off. The beam will be at least 4″ (10cm) wide, but no more than 6″ (15cm) wide. Failing means touching the ground more than twice on an attempt, or having a very rounded back, or elevated hips, and there is only one attempt.
Test 5
CLIMBING – The sliding swing-up (a climbing technique using both arms and legs)
The candidate must successfully climb on top of the bar from the deadhang position using the sliding swing-up technique on both sides without touching the floor. The candidate will have 2 attempts to complete this (an attempt starts once the feet have come off of the ground, and is completed only when the ground is touched again). Failing means not getting on top of the bar.
Test 6
RUNNING
The candidate must demonstrate efficient running technique over a 20 yards (20m) distance. This implies proper posture, foot placement and stride, and a relaxed form. Failing means improper posture, foot placement and stride, or excessive stiffness.
Tests 7-10
LIFTING-CARRYING – Lift, clean and jerk, then shoulder and deep squat with sandbag (approximately 45lbs – 20kg for women, 70lbs – 30kg for men).
7-The candidate must show proper form while deadlifting the sandbag. Failing means inability to perform with good technique.
8-The candidate must show proper form while cleaning the sandbag. Failing means inability to perform with good technique.
9-The candidate must show proper form while jerking the sandbag. Failing means inability to perform with good technique.
10-The candidate must show proper form while shouldering, and squatting the sandbag on his/her shoulder. Failing means inability to perform with good technique.
Tests 11 & 12
THROWING-CATCHING – Alternating rotational swing throw and catch on both sides, using a medicine ball (approximately 15lbs – 7kg for women and 20lbs – 9kg for men).
The candidate will have to complete 20 throws and catches in a row, alternating sides. Failing means having more than 4 drops or 4 bad throws (improper form or trajectory).
Overall Physical Competency
The list of tests above is a sample of the overall physical competence that we expect from each and every MovNat© Trainer.
