Here I sit with 3 MovNat sessions (two WV 5-day workshops with Erwan Le Corre, and one Montreal 2-day with Vic Verdier) and 2.5 years of natural movement behind me. I could recount in detail the various health and fitness benefits I enjoy or how I move better, but there are many such excellent testimonials already on this site. Instead, I will be discussing an important topic often mentioned in relation to MovNat but rarely elaborated upon: the tribe.
MovNat events consist of like-minded people looking to grow their movement patterns. They are often quite familiar with MovNat and recognize that important aspects of the methodology include self-improvement in a non-competitive format and thriving as a member of a tribe made up of individuals sharing similar goals. They also realize that “a generalist” means someone competent in a multitude of movement patterns in which one will inevitably have strengths and weaknesses. Thus, looking to others for inspiration, guidance, and encouragement is part of the MovNat experience. One-upmanship and being the best in the west is not part of the game.
Given my experience with about 40 MovNatters from rookies (e.g. myself in 2009) to masters (e.g. Erwan, Vic and Cliff), I have yet to encounter anything other than warmth and enthusiasm for the individual`s and group’s performance. Everyone encourages each other and is willing to lend a hand whether that means helping someone climb on top a bar or clean that last pan after supper. We high-five each other, offer words of encouragement, joke around, sweat together, and team-carry heavy loads up forest slopes. And while we often are proud of ourselves as we grow in our natural movement abilities, we are also happy for our fellow tribe members as they master new skills.
In this day of Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, texting, etc., it is truly refreshing to personally connect with others face to face. Virtual friendships simply do not measure up to friendships established via a shared, challenging, and rewarding experience, such as a MovNat event.
So to those thinking of trying MovNat, jump in. The tribe is ready to welcome you to the fold.

Can’t wait to be part of the tribe…… Summer of 2012 can’t get here soon enough:)
Well said.
I am honored and privileged to have met so many enthusiastic and positive people during my MovNat clinics.
It’s funny how quickly a group of strangers can become supportive and genuine friends, even within the span of 8 hours, but it happens, and it’s the reason the MovNat Family keeps growing.
But besides those I’ve already met, I also know that I have friends the world over, even if we haven’t crossed paths… yet.
Hope to see you (yes, YOU) in Birmingham and beyond.
