Movement Highlight | By MovNat

Born in 1972 in Malmö, but moved at the age of 3 to the concrete jungle of the Stockholm suburb of Rinkeby. But it was the carefree ’70s, so summers were spent in the archipelago or making bows and slingshots and playing in the woods with friends from the apartment complex. I started playing soccer at an early age, then took up boxing as a teenager. After that, I did strength training at the gym—boring, but I didn’t have to stick to a schedule.

In the wake of the food safety scares surrounding mad cow disease, Belgian Blue cows, and so on, in the early 2000s, I began to wonder what diet we were evolutionarily designed to eat and came across the paleo, hunter-gatherer diet, which I started in 2003 and have followed ever since.

In 2008, I graduated with a degree in physical education from Stockholm University. Then, as a natural extension of the Paleo diet, I discovered MovNat in 2011 through an article in ICA-kuriren about a man (MovNat’s founder, Erwan Le Corre) who was running shirtless in Central Park in New York with a group of people. That’s when it struck me: of course, we’re also designed for a certain kind of movement. I immediately signed up for a workshop in Borås with Erwan and triathlon world champion Jonas Colting. After that, I left the gym for good and started practicing MovNat. As a physical education teacher, I also used MovNat extensively in my classes, much to the children’s delight. I let them climb trees and wrestle standing up (like sumo) in the schoolyard under my supervision. But I have now left the school’s highly regimented and stifling environment for a much freer life.

Around 2014, I completed MovNat’s very first Level 1 and 2 certifications in New Mexico, USA, followed by the first Level 3 certification in Santa Fe. Since then, I’ve held countless MovNat workshops and events, and I serve as president of the nonprofit organization MovNat Sweden, which organizes events and aims to promote natural movement and knowledge about a more natural way of life.

I left the concrete jungle and the hustle and bustle of Stockholm long ago and now live far up north in the forest, close to nature, where nature dominates the view, not asphalt and concrete. Where you can hear the silence, see the stars, breathe fresh air, and run more easily barefoot on a trail. Back to nature and what’s natural—what we’re meant to be—and that’s where I want to help others who are missing that.
